Mads Magnussen appointed new director general of the Norwegian Competition Authority

Lawyer Mads Magnussen has been appointed Director General of the Norwegian Competition Authority.

– The Norwegian Competition Authority plays a key role in ensuring that resources in society are used efficiently and that market competition benefits both consumers and businesses. Mads Magnussen brings extensive experience from both the private and public sectors and is well qualified to lead the Authority in a time of rapid change and emerging challenges, says Minister of Trade and Industry Cecilie Myrseth.

– It is an honour to be appointed director general of the Norwegian Competition Authority. I look forward to returning to a strong and proactive public institution that works every day to ensure that markets function as effectively as possible. This is crucial for both consumers and businesses, says Mads Magnussen.

About Mads Magnussen

Mads Magnussen holds a law degree from the University of Oslo and a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He has many years of experience in EU/EEA and competition law, including roles at the EFTA Court, as legal director at the Norwegian Competition Authority, and as partner and head of department at Wikborg Rein law firm. He also has extensive experience as a judge.
Mads Magnussen has been appointed for a six-year term and will assume the role of Director General of Competition on 1 January 2026.
