New chief economist at the Norwegian Competition Authority

Professor Lars Sørgard has been appointed chief economist of the Competition Authority, and takes up the position in August 2015.

 Sørgard is 55 years old and a professor at the Norwegian School of Economics, NHH. He has done research in the field of competition policy over many years. At NHH, he was responsible for the courses in competition policy and competition law.

Sørgard is chairman of the Centre for Applied Research at NHH and a board member of the Financial Supervisory Authority. Moreover, he has participated in several national committees as an expert in the field of competition.

Sørgard has been one of the founders of the Bergen Center for Competition Law and Economics, and he has also previously worked as the chief economist at the Authority.

– We are very pleased that Lars Sørgard will be the Competition Authority’s new chief economist. Sørgard has a strong international network and, in my mind, is the foremost economist within the competition field in Norway, says Director General for Competition Christine B. Meyer.
