Clears Telia’s acquisition of Phonero

The Norwegian Competition Authority has notified Telia that the acquisition of Phonero is cleared.

− After a profound investigation, the Norwegian Competition Authority has found that Telia’s acquisition of Phonero would not result in a significant impediment to effective competition, said the Director General Lars Sørgard.

Telia and Telenor are by far the two largest players in the Norwegian market for mobile telecommunication services. In the segment of mobile telecommunication services to business customers, however, Phonero is a successful player who has gained considerable market share.

The Norwegian Competition Authority sent a notice of possible intervention to the Parties February 27, 2017. The Competition Authority received the Parties comments to this notification March 20, 2017.

− The Norwegian Competition Authority has notified Telia that the acquisition of Phonero is cleared. Based on the Parties comments and further considerations, The Norwegian Competition Authority has found that the acquisition among others will lead to cost savings for Phonero that will in turn benefit costumers, said Director Market Monitoring Department Gjermund Nese.

The case was notified November 11, 2016.
